The ATI Omni Hybrid Maxx 5.56 NATO semi-auto is the best all-around semi-auto on the list. Not only is the Omni Hybrid an excellent semi-auto, the rifle is priced very well as well. Because of the lightweight but strong materials of the Omni Hybrid, as well as its inexpensive price, I chose this firearm to be the best one of its kind. Chambered in 5.56 caliber, the Alpha-15 AR Rifle comes with power and precision in an impressively light package, at a weight of only 5.51 pounds.
The Alpha-15 is light and affordable, so it checks off all the boxes for people who may not have otherwise owned a modern sporting rifle. Keep in mind the DB-15 is quite the popular rifle, so you might need to keep checking over time to find one in stock.
This rifle offers 16-gauge Chrome Moly Vanadium-4140 barrels, and Melonite finishes to provide an even smoother system. This rifle comes equipped with an Amend2 30 round magazine from AT, which features a bright orange rail follower with bold orange 2 at the base, with an enormous “Made in USA” text at the front. The Alpha-15 AR rifle comes with an American Tactical polymer 30-round magazine, 8-inch MLOK rail, and flip-up sights. American Tacticals Alpha-15 offers the rifle in a 5.5-pound package, complete with free-floating handguards and flip-up sights, at $499.
This Alpha-15 model also features a black 16-nitride barrel and 15 M-Lok rails, so you can mount any accessories you want. If you have some extra dollars, Mossbergs MMR is around $700 street, and it has all the same features — including rails — that this ATI Omni model has.
There are a couple versions of the American Tactical Omni Hybrid, marketed as a full rifle package — full uppers are available from AT, too. The New Maxx Version of the American Tactical Omni Hybrid The American Tactical Omni Hybrid is the companys obvious response to these lessons learned; it is a proprietary lower receiver design that takes advantage of the lightweight nature of polymer without sacrificing metals reliability in key points. It is the offspring of American Tacticals polymer-receiver Omni system, which has been offered for almost ten years, and features polymer construction in both the upper receiver and lower receiver.
Visually, the only really obvious differences between the 5.56 Omni hybrid from American Tactical and common aluminum lower receivers are larger, more moulded triggerguards, and better-open magazines. The products I tested ranged from common semiautomatic rifles, to carbines, and NATO rifles. Keep in mind, polymer stocks have been widely adopted in mainstream bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles for years.
There are a few areas, such as lower polymer components, that I am concerned about with time, and they probably need to be replaced if the Alpha-15 is going to see much use. This is much like why American Tactical ships the Alpha-15 with a stock, a standard, Mil-spec folding buttstock, and pistol grip: The end-user is more than likely going to change out the stock quickly after getting a rifle like the Alpha-15 (sometimes minutes). I have received rifles from other companies that were missing parts, or would not even fire.
I find it difficult to understand how anyone would be able to verify firing the rifle while having SAFE on the security butt, because it was like this still the second time I received a rifle.
With the new rifle, there was no large difference in performance between different loads, and I even shot 200 rounds total through the rifle with no stalls or issues. Interestingly, the second rifle liked the CorBon loads as well as the first one, and after bench-testing this load and four others, the average of the five five-shot groups using all five loads was 2.82 inches. While I was banging steel, it looked like the rifle was shooting pretty good, so I was excited to get it on the bench and see how the AR at its MSRP of $644.95 was going to shoot.
For a budget rifle with a pencil barrel that is more about saving weight than getting ultimate precision, the Alpha-15 holds up pretty well. In addition to being cheap (under $600), the DB-15 offered high-quality experiences with well-built designs. The nice thing about the Alfa-15 is its $499 MSRP — it is basically the same price as an AR-15-style.22-LR-dedicated rifle, but with the added advantage that it is easily swappable to 5.56 NATO. If we are being honest, cheap FMJ ammo is really all the use that ARs like the Alfa-15 will ever see.
This rifle features the Nano parts kit standard A2 flash hider, A2 pistol grip and forward assist and dust cover. The ATI forged products are available in 12-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge, and rifle.
