Diamondback Db15 5.56 Nato Semi Auto Rifle Flat Dark Earth

Categories:

In this AllOutdoor review, we look at the Diamondback DB15 5.56mm NATO exclusive from Davidsons, dipped into the Dark Terrain to see if it fits the description of being easy on the pocketbook, heavy on quality. The rifle that we are reviewing is supplied by Davidson, as this is indeed the Davidsons Exclusive, and is a Diamondback DB15 (Model DB15MZFDE) chambered in.223 Rem/5.56mm NATO. In closing, I would like to thank Davidsons for giving AllOutdoor and me the opportunity to test-drive Davidsons exclusive Diamondback DB15 5.56 NATO chambered in a flat dark earth (FDE). The Diamondback DB15 Diamond Series is quite a reliable purchase — especially in terms of getting started.

The DB15 Diamond Series is Diamondbacks premium range, including upgraded triggers, furniture, a handsome hard case, and sights included in the box. The Diamondback DB15 series of rifles are available in a number of different finishes today, including a Diamond series that features Diamondbacks signature lower receiver design. The upper and lower receivers are compatible with standard Mil-Spec match plays, a relief considering the Diamondback-customized lower.

Another MagPul part, the MOE-K2+ ($25) has more of a vertical slant, making shorter-pull rifles a little more comfortable. The build is completed by a regulated MOE Carbine Stock, a MOE Grip, and 12-inch M-LOK Handguard Rail. On an adjustable-stock rifle such as this one, that means that the stock can be adjusted down, but not tightening up the hands.

Dry-firing the rifle prior to going out on a range, the Diamondback DB15 has a respectable trigger reset, but the trigger pull is a bit heavy when compared to other lower-end ARs that I have shot and handled before. I ran a few transition drills with cardboard and steel silhouettes at distances of 25-50 yards, and the Diamondback DB15 ran cheap steel-cased ammunition, and the much higher-quality Norma USA Match ammunition, perfectly. Nothing against Diamondback Guns (more on the cheap ammo), but I fully expected a budget rifle shooting suspected ammunition to get about 3-5 groups good around 100 yards.

I doubt that a lot of civilian shooters will have to worry about that, but that is the kind of rifle I might go patrolling with. Well, the thing that would make most consumers want to dive in and purchase this rifle is probably price point and a flat dark earth color (FDE) color scheme. First, people need to know what they are getting for $1,000, and second, this rifle is reliably dull, and as accurate as the Diamondback that I reviewed four years ago.

The used cost of a DB15 rifle has dropped ($37.57) in the last 12 months, down to $525.77. Before their AR-10 overhaul, and ever since the Diamondback, they have been manufacturing quality rifles for incredibly fair prices.

The actual buyer needs to be 21 years or older to buy a pistol, and/or firearms receptacle, chassis, suppressor, or handgun-only gun. Not all buyers are eligible.
